BIOGRAPHY:
Lucía Campillo (Murcia, 1987) began her dance training in her hometown before completing her studies at the prestigious Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Mariemma in Madrid.
In 2006, she joined Taller Estudio (by Ballet Nacional de España) under the direction of José Antonio Ruiz, appeared in Carlos Saura’s film Iberia, and began her professional career with the renowned Antonio Gades Company. In 2010, she became a member of Ballet Nacional de España, first under José Antonio Ruiz and later under Antonio Najarro, performing prominent solo roles on the stages of major national and international festivals.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with leading companies such as those of María Pagés, Rojas y Rodríguez, or Aída Gómez, and appeared in Gala Flamenca, directed by Miguel Ángel Rojas, sharing the stage with flamenco greats including Antonio Canales, Carlos Rodríguez, and Karime Amaya.
In 2016, her solo piece La Imperfecta received multiple awards at Madrid’s Spanish Dance and Flamenco Competition, including Outstanding Dancer, Best Musical Composition, and Best Costume Design. In 2018, she took part in the residency project Quietud en movimiento at New York’s City Center, alongside artists such as Jesús Carmona — with whose company she has collaborated since 2011 — Joaquín de Luz, and David Newman.
Lucía is a regular performer at some of Spain’s most iconic tablaos, including El Corral de la Morería, Tablao Cordobés, Tablao Villa Rosa, Las Carboneras, and Casa Patas. In 2020, she joined the Sergio Bernal Dance Company as a guest artist in the show Volver.
As a teacher and choreographer, she has been invited to share her artistry and versatility in various forms of Spanish dance and flamenco at institutions across the globe, including the University of Albuquerque and dance centres in Mexico, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, or China.
Most recently, she was honoured with the Única Award, aimed at outstanding women from the Region of Murcia for their artistic contribution and professional achievements.
