Montse Cortés was born in Barcelona in 1963 and began her career at the age of 14 in the tablao El Cordobés. Renowned for her five-year long work with Antonio Canales, she has also collaborated with dancers such as Sara Baras or Juan de Juan, and has taken part in Tomatito’s Tomate & Friends.
Her voice has made its mark on albums such as Juan Habichuela’s De la Zambra al Duende, Miguel Poveda’s Suena Flamenco and El Viejín’s Algo que Decir, where she shows his “camaronesque” heritage. She has also provided backing vocals for Manzanita, Tijeritas and El Califa.
She is usually accompanied on guitar by her nephew Eduard Cortés and, above all, by El Viejín. Paco de Lucía promoted her in tarantas and soleás por bulerías styles, highlighting her depth. In 2000 she released Alabanza, produced by El Paquete and released by Sony.
